If there is one thing that many businesses do during recession, it is to cut their marketing budget. Many small businesses especially feel that in order to cut on costs and save their precious cash flow, it is critical that they curb their marketing efforts and concentrate on the traditional way of advertising. They simply rely on what everyone else is doing, so they go to the Yellow Pages or the local newsletters and periodicals to promote their business.

But this is where these small businesses are mistaken. The economic crunch we're experiencing right now doesn't mean that we have to cut back on marketing altogether. Why do big companies retrench, decrease their production, and re-evaluate their products? They do anything that they can do to cut their expenses; but never do they touch their marketing budget. So how come you do?

It's recession. We know that. And we know that businesses cut costs. But your marketing budget should not be the first one to be slashed. On the contrary, you have to leave your marketing budget if you want to survive these very turbulent economic times. And the only way you can do that is to continue marketing your product and services.

Marketing in its very essence is any business' way to finding, engaging, convincing, and persuading clients of your business' worth. It's your lone action that would get you your customers as well as increase your client database. Without customers, you have no business. So cut back on any other expense and leave your marketing budget alone.

Many small businesses nowadays are going online to help them market their products and services. Whether it's online printing, graphic designing, acquiring knowledge on marketing strategies, and even generating leads for the business - going to online printers and any other websites can help you increase your chances of success. No more heavy and cumbersome books and paper to carry with you just so you can look for ways to increase your client recognition. All you need to do is to go online and log on to any website, be it online printing or homemade recipes, and you can already get as much information, as well as convey your own message to a worldwide range of prospects. With almost 85% of households going to search engines for their information dosage, it's no wonder that many businesses turn to this route to market their ventures.

Cutting your marketing budget is not a solution to your cash woes. Rather, slashing it can only crush your small business further. If you don't want to close shop, then you'd better double your marketing efforts especially in these trying times.
